MusicGoals Eye and Ear - String Instrument Goals
Music lesson software,
        guitar lessons, guitar chords

These objectives use an on-screen fingerboard and sometimes also a staff to teach and drill note names, staff reading, scales, intervals, chords, solfeggio, and melody. The portion of the fingerboard displayed is the range for the drill. There may be an entire fingerboard or just a few frets of one or two strings. Drills start out with a small amount of material to master, for example, just a few notes to learn for staff reading. As you progress, the portion of the fingerboard changes and more notes, intervals, scales, or chords are added.

When a new student file is created, one of the following string instruments is selected: guitar, violin, viola, cello, or bass. The material included and the number of drill levels for each objective depend on which string instrument is selected. Other string instruments and alternate tunings may be studied using options to select another instrument or tuning. You can even create your own string instrument and tuning and study it!

Violin, viola, and cello can be studied on screen with the aid of imaginary frets. These frets are drawn as dotted lines to indicate the position on the fingerboard.

Use the mouse or your external midi device to learn the material before starting the test. For example, play a note to see its name or place on the staff or, click on the staff to see the note on the on-screen fingerboard.

Below is a brief description of each of the String Instrument Objectives.
