1) Print out the "Scores" sheet at the end of each session and keep a folder for each student. The score sheets list mistakes as well as progress. They will identify the needs of the student. If part of the material is not understood you will see it. Having a folder is proof of progress. This can be a real incentive for doing the required work and taking pride in what is accomplished.
2) Keep an ear open to the reward sounds at the completion of each drill. While working with other students you can still tell how a student is doing by these sounds. If you hear the dissonant second, get back to them right away before they get frustrated. They can use the "Hint" button to see the correct answers but will not get credit until they master the material.
3) Review the "Current Goals" (F2) with your students before they begin a drill session. Go over the material and terms covered with them. The session will be more productive with less of a chance of frustration. Make sure that they read and understand the level names. They describe the material covered. Often knowing what is and is not included helps them figure out the answers.
4) Do not forget to use the tempo slider for each activity! Finding the right tempo for each student will make the difference between boredom, frustration, and fun!
5) Singing is an mportant part of ear training. Have absolute beginners match notes on there instrument to notes they sing, and visa versa. They can freely use the replay button or "Options - Auto Replay" in the "by ear" drills. Have them sing the intervals, chords, or melody before giving their answer.
6) Print out the "Progress" sheet after several sessions and on a regular basis. Keep these in the student's folder with "Score" sheets.
7) If you have a istudent that can not pass one of the goal levels in a reasonable time, make adjustments. They can always skip an activity "Go To - Next Goal" (F5). They will cycle back to it again. If need be "Set Objectives - Select Goals from List" (F8). Check off goals appropriate for the student and set reasonable goal levels for each (to do this click on the text for the level name).
